Conversion, an update... Transformation, des nouvelles

So, last Saturday (sorry for the delay in the updates...) Kathy and Raphael had a go at setting up the side boxes in the van. The left one was straight forward enough (so I've been told... I was at work you see...). The right one was the difficult one, apparently... :p

Donc, Samedi dernier (desole pour le retard avec les nouvelles) Kathy et Raphael on installe les caissons sur les cotes du camion. Celui de gauche etait relativement simple (qu'on m'a dit... j'etais au travail vous voyez...). Celui de droite etait plus difficile, apparament... :p

As you can see, the box on the right had to have a split shelf, simple reason, below that is the right amount of space for our camping table and chairs... very important stuff...

Comme vous voyez, le caisson de droite a un "faux-fond", pour la simple raison que notre table et chaises de camping rentrent pil poil dessous... Y'a des trucs important dans la vie...

So there's a picture of both boxes in.

Donc voila une photo avec les deux caissons installes.

The last step was to cut the boards that will be used to make the lids/seats/beds.

La derniere chose faite ce jour la a ete de couper les bouts de panneaux pour les couvercle/siege/lit.

More to come soon as we bought a whole heap of goodies, including a large piece of foam, fabric, glue, a 300W Inverter, a 75W inverter, a 100AH AGM battery, lights fittings, sewing scissors, electric knife, low watts light bulbs, straps and a mutlimeter... fun times ahead... :)

On va bientot avoir encore plus de truc a raconter parceque on a achete tout plein de truc, y compris un gros bout de mousse, du tissue, de la colle, un convertisseur - 300W et un a 75W, une batterie AGM a 100AH, des lumieres, des ciseaux de couture, un couteaux electric, des ampoules a peu de Watts, des sangles et un multimetre... on va s'amuser... :)

From Van to CAMPER-Van... De Camionette a CAMPING-Camionette (parceque c'est pas un car... :)

So, we have done a bit of work, it is not yet complete, but here's what we've done:
Donc, on a avance un petit peu, c'est pas encore fini, mais voila ce qu'on a fait:

Firstly, we stripped the back of it bare, removed the plastic flooring (which we used a template for the floor panel).
On a commence par enlever le revetement de sol en plastique (on s'en ai servit pour la decoupe du panneaux).



Secondly, we cut the floor boards to size (11mm OSB) and installed them... which we then covered with vinyl (because we can... and it's pretty :)
On a ensuite decouper les panneaux (OSB - 11mm) et on les a installe au sol... puis on a installe le lino (parceque on peut et c'est mimi :)



The next part, which made Raphael pull hair out of his head was to install the support for the side panels... while Kathy and I had fun with double sided tape and aluminium insulating bubble wrap...
Raphael s'ai arrache les cheveux a accrocher les supports pour les panneaux qui vont sur les cotes... pendant que Kathy et moi nous nous ammusions avec du scotch double face et du papier a bulle d'isolation en alu...

The next step was to prepare the frame for the storage boxes/couch/bed... This was done by making squares using 40x40 Timber. One example of our squares beautifully presented by Kathy while I (Yes ME !) is hard at work in the back...
L'etape qui suis a ete de prepare l'armature des boites de rangement/canape/lit... Ceci a ete fait en fesant des carres avec du bois de 40x40. Un example magnifiquement presente par Kathy, pendant que moi (Oui ! Moi !) je travaille dure dans le fond...



Trimmed the vinyl and attached the carpet (sooooo pretty.... )
On a fait la decoupe du lino et attache la moquette (tellement jolie)

Donc ci dessous est la premiere moitier de la boite du fond. Vu de devant et derriere.

The Van / La Camionette

Now, as it happened, our brilliant plan to go round Europe in a 99 Fiat Punto is dead. Somehow, I doubt that this car could do it. Considering the cracked head gasket, the timing belt that is due and god knows what else... So we bought the Van !!
We gave the shitbomb to mum... shush, she doesn't know yet that the engine is gonna blow !!
The Van is indeed a retired posty van... therefore the beautiful colour green !! :)



Bon, notre superbe projet de prendre notre petite Fiat Punto qui a plus de 11 ans autour de l'Europe est tombe a l'eau. Pourtant je croyais mordicus qu'elle aurait pu le faire. Mais bon avec un joint de cullasse fendu, une courroie a remplacer et qui qu'sait quoi d'autre... On a achete la Camionette !!
On a donne la chiotte a maman... shutt, elle sait pas encore que le moteur va exploser !
La Camionette est une ancienne camionette de la poste Irlandaise, ceci explique la couleure verte ! :)

The First One / Le Premier

The first post. :)
The plan: to be hippie's for a year, to go where we want, to travel around Europe until the money runs out... To work on farms for a bed and a hot meal... To drive the coastal roads, the mountain roads, the country roads and the city roads. But more importantly, to have a blast and to have the (first of many) adventure of a lifetime.

Le premier poste. :)
Le projet: d'etre hippie pour un an, d'aller ou nous voulons, de voyager autour de l'Europe jusqu'a plus de sous... De travailler "la terre" pour un lit et un repas chaud... De prendre les routes cotiere, les routes de montagne, les routes de campagne et les routes de ville. Mais de maniere plus importante, de s'amuser et d'avoir (la premiere de beaucoup) l'aventure de notre vie.
