Lakes and Islands... Des Lacs et des Iles...

Day/Jour 143 - 23/10/10
After a (somewhat well deserved) very late start, we headed off to the local attraction... Lake Bled. A beautiful spot, with its castle overlooking the lake and the little church on the island in the middle it.
Apres un (quelque peu meriter) depart tardiffe, nous avons visite l'attraction touristique du coin... Le Lac Bled. Un endroit magnifique, avec le chateau qui domine le lac et la petite eglise sur l'ile en plein millieux du lac.

 

So we decided to be "adventurous" and rent out a rowing boat for an hour... I can't row and neither does Kath, though she only said it once we were on the water. But we still managed to make it the island and back... :)
Donc nous avions decider de partir a "l'aventure" et avions louer une barque pour une heure... Je ne sais pas ramer et Kathy non plus, mais elle ne me l'a dit qu'une fois sur l'eau. Mais bon, nous avons quand meme reussi a fair un aller retour jusqu'a l'ile... :)



Day/Jour 144 - 24/10/10
This morning, we checked out the Slap Savica Waterfall, just off the "Bohinjsko Jezero" (Lake of Bohinj). We had to walk up the mountain a bit to reach the waterfall, the sceneries on the way were as beautiful as the waterfall itself.
Ce matin, nous sommes aller voir la Cascade de Slap Savica, just a cote du "Bohinjsko Jezero" (le Lac de Bohinj). Nous devions monter un peu en haut de la montagne pour la voir, les paysage en chemain etaient aussi beau que la cascade elle meme. 

   

We also stopped to enjoy the lake itself, much less touristy than its neighbourg Lake Bled, but just as gorgeous, if not nicer.
Nous nous sommes egalement arreter pour voir le Lac meme, beaucoup moins touristique que son voisin le Lac Bled, mais tout aussi magnifique, si ce n'est plus.


  

We then headed to the capital, Ljubljana. The plan was to head to our campsite early, but due to the marathon, the road we were planning to take was blocked off, and due to our lack of SatNav for this region, we decided not to venture into the little roads of Ljubljana and get lost, so we parked the car, and visited the city centre by foot.
Nous ensuite aller direction la capital, Ljubljana. Au depart, on compter juste aller a notre camping de bonne heur, mais a cause du marathon, le route qu'on comptait prendre etait bloque, et comme on n'a pas de GPS pour cette region, nous ne voulions pas prendre les petites ruelle de Ljubljana par peur de se perdre, donc nous avons garer la voiture et avons explorer le centre ville a pied. 



Ljubljana is quite a nice town, with a lot of different architecture mixed in together and rather strange art lurking at every corner. :)
Ljubljana est une plutot jolie ville, avec toute sorte d'architecture melanger ensemble et de l'art un peu etrange qui se cache a chaque coin de rue. :)

    

Day/Jour 145 - 25/10/10
After some very wet weather overnight we decided to head west to the coast. On the way we visited the Skojan Caves where we walked for 2 hours through the cave. We weren't allowed to take pictures but let's just say that the caves were extremely impressive. We were in parts 160m underground, we saw stalactites, stalacmites and crossed a rather scary bridge inside the cave. The bridge crosses the deepest underground canyon in Europe and thus gaining Unensco listing.
Apres un temp tres pluivieux pendant la nuit, nous avions decide de partir ouest, direction la cote. En chemin nous avons visite la Grotte de Skojan, ou nous avons marcher pendant 2 heures dans la grotte. Nous n'avions pas le droit de prendre de photos mais disons juste que la grotte etait vraiment impressionante. A certain moment, nous etions a 160m sous-sol, nous avons vu des stalactites et des stalacmites et nous avons traverser un pont qui fesait plutot peur dans la grotte. Le pond traverse le canyon sous-terrain le plus profond d'Europe, et c'est d'ailleur pour cela que la Grotte fait partit du patrimoine de UNESCO.

Day/Jour 146 - 26/10/10
Today we visited Piran, a really nice town on the west coast of Slovenia, its architecture is influenced by the Venetian Empire. It had those same windy narrow streets like Venice but without the need for bridges, etc. The winds were extremely severe we nearly got blown away. Due to a lack of campsites around the area we are quickly descending the Slovenian coast.
Aujourd'hui nous avons visiter Piran, une tres belle ville sur la cote ouest de la Slovenie, son architecture est extremement influence par l'empire Venetian. Piran a les meme petite rue etroite, tout comme Venise mais sans les ponts et tout. Il y a beaucoup de vent, on a faillit s'envoler. A cause du manque de camping, nous avons rapidement decendu la cote de la Slovenie.  


   

We drove down the coast and crossed the border to Croatia. Again very beautiful scenery but extreme winds here at the moment. We are now camping on the island of Krk which is accessible by bridge.
Nous avons continuer notre route le long de la cote et avions traverser la frontiere avec la Croatie. Encore de tres beau paysage mais il y a beaucoup beaucoup de vent ici en ce moment. Nous sommes a present dans un camping sur l'ile de Krk qui est accessible par pont. 

 

One last point about Slovenia, strangely funny roadsigns:
Une derniere chose a propos de la Slovenie, des panneaux etrangement ammusants:

"Stickmen Biker" Signs... "No Tank overtaking" signs...
Panneaux Motard... Panneaux "interdiction de doubler si vous conduisez un tank"...
 

Day/Jour 147 - 27/10/10
Started the morning by visiting the town of Baska. We checked out the rather desserted town and went down by the waters edge where we were greeted by some spectacular views of the stormy winds on the gorgeous blue water of the Adriatic Sea.
Nous avons commencer la journee en visiter la ville de Baska. Nous avons fait le tour de cette ville partiquement deserte et sommes aller le long de l'eau ou nous avons ete acceuillit par des vue magnifique des vents genre tempete sur l'eau tres bleu de la mer Adriatic. 

 

We departed Krk island the only way possible via the bridge we came in on and found some beautiful coastline as we descended down the Croation coast. We struggled through the severe winds to reach the small town of Prizna where we caught a car ferry to the island of Pag.
Nous avons quitter l'ile de Krk, par le seul chemin possible, le pont sur le quel on est arriver et avons trouver de tres beau paysage en decendant la coate de la Croatie. Nous avons eu un peu de mal a arriver a la ville de Prizna a cause du vent, mais un fois la, nous avons pris un ferry jusqu'a l'ile de Pag.

   

Pag island appears to be quite beautiful, very very rocky, we thought we had just arrived on Mars when we got off the ferry as it is so barren. We are camped just out of the town of Pag ready to chill for a few days.
L'ile de Pag a l'aire d'etre une tres belle ile, extremement rocheuse, on a cru etre arriver sur Mars quand on est decendu du ferry c'etait tellement aride. Nous sommes a present dans un camping juste a la sortit de la ville de Pag ou on compte relaxer pendant quelque jours.  


   


Day/Jour 148 - 28/10/10
Happy 4 years anniversary to us... :) we did nothing, it was great... And shortly we're heading out for dinner... :)
Joyeux anniversaire, 4 ans ensemble... :) Aujourd'hui on a rien fait, c'etait super... Et bientot on va aller se faire un petit resto... :)

Cheese, Gondolas and Snow... Du Fromage, des Gondoles et de la Neige...

Day/Jour 140 - 20/10/10
Drove to the cute town Parma, checked out the markets and of course bought ourselves some yummy parmesan cheese. We went to a supermarket only to be asked to leave in the middle of our shop as they close for an afternoon break - 1300 - 1600 which is quite usual across Italy. We are now camped just outside of Venice.
Nous sommes aller a la jolie petite ville de Parma, nous avons fait le tour des marcher, et bien evidament avons acheter un peu de parmesan. Nous sommes aller dans un super marcher, seulement pour etre demander de partir en plein millieux de nos course car les magasins ferme l'apres midi, entre 13h et 16h. ce qui est apparament relativement tres courrant en Italy. Nous sommes a present dand un camping du cote de Venice. 


 

Day/Jour 141 - 21/10/10
Venice - what a day. Such a nice island. We caught a ferry over as there are no cars in Venice, all transports happen on the water.
Venice, quelle journee, Une super belle île. Nous avons pris un ferry, car il n'ya pas de voitures dans Venice meme... Tout transports se passent sur l'eau

 

In the gorgeous weather we admired the 12th-19th century houses along the canals and island. We really wanted to go on a godola ride but when asked the price 100 euro each was the answer so we said no thanks, further haggled for 50euro each but we thought it was still too expensive so we moved on until we found a gondola taxi - it brings you from one side of the Grand Canal to the other for 50 cents each, can't say we didn't go on a gondola in Venice now!!!
Avec le temps magnifique que nous avons eu, nous avons admire les maisons du 12eme au 19eme le long des canaux. On voulait vraiment faire un tour en gondole, mais quand on nous a dit le prix, 100 Euro par personne, on a poliment refuser. On nous a ensuite offer 50 Euro par personnes, mais ca fesait encore beaucoup trop cher pour notre petit budget. Donc nous sommes partit et avons trouver un "taxi-gondole" qui t'emmene d'un cote a l'autre du Grand canal pour 50 centime chaqune. On ne peut pas dire qu'on a pas fait un tour de gondole a Venice maintenant... :)

       

There are bridges literally everywhere connecting the streets over the small canals and plenty of shops selling masks and glassware.
Il y a des pont pratiquement partout qui relient les rues sur les petits canaux. Il y a aussi beaucoup de magasins qui vendent des masques et des produit en verre.

 

Day/Jour 142 - 22/10/10
Today we left Italy and headed toward Gorgeous Slovenia. Had lunch next to a blue as blue can be lake, drove through snow covered mountains, walked on a scary looking bridge. And now we're in Bohinj, just down the road for the Lake Bled. And it's cold.
Aujourd'hui nous avons quite l'Italy en direction de la Tres Belle Slovenie. Avons fait un picnique a cote d'un lac d'un bleu superbe. On a rouler a travers de montagne couverte de neige, marcher sur pont qui fesait peur. Et maintenant, nous sommes du cote de Bohinj, pas loin du Lac Bled. Et il fait froid.
