Let there be light... Que la lumière soit

I know, I know, I am not the best at this update thing... I have full intentions of it being a daily thing when we're actually on the road... but then again, we never know... :)
Je sais, je sais, je ne suis pas terrible avec mes mis a jour... J'ai l'intentions a ce que se soit quelquechose de quotidien quand on sera sur la route... mais bon, on ne sais jamais... :)

Anyway... And god said "Let there be light" and there was light... worked a bit like that...
We said "Let there be light", "Ok, Ikea light?"
Ikea said "Light fixtures is downstairs"
So I said "Oooh I like this light", and Kath said "Let there be this light then"
And Raphael said "Ok, Let's attach this Ikea light"
And then, just like magic... There was light.
Moral of the story, it's a lie, truly ain't that easy... but Ikea rocks. So pretty :)

Enfin bref... Et dieu dit "Que la lumiere soit" et la lumiere fut... ca a marche un peu comme ca...
On a dit "Que la lumiere soit", "Ok, de la lumiere Ikea?"
Ikea a dit "Les installations pour lumiere, c'est en bas"
Et j'ai dit "Oooh, j'aime cette lumiere", Kathy a dit "Et bien, que cette lumiere soit"
Et Raphael a dit "Ok, attachons cette lumiere Ikea"
Et pouf, comme par magie... La lumiere fut.
La moral de l'histoire, on nous a menti, c'est pas si facile que ca... Mais Ikea, c'est super... tellement jolie :)



So we have two like the above, one on each side... They are fitted with 7w low energy light bulds (40w equivalent). Power wise, they are plugged on the invertor, which is plugged onto the spare battery.
Donc, on en a deux comme les ci-dessu, une de chaque cote... Les ampoules sont des ampoules a economie d'energie a 7w (equivalant 40w). Elles sont branchees sur le convertiseur, qui est branche sur la 2eme batterie.

I would like to formally apologise for a terrible omission. I would like to thank my mother for the cups of coffees and lunches she has prepared for us throughout the work that has been done on this van. :) Though we didn't get much yesterday.
J'aimerai m'escuser pour un oublie inimaginable. Je tiens a remercier ma mere pour toutes les tasses de cafe et tous les casses-croutes qu'elle nous a prepare pendant nos travaux sur le camion. :) Mais bon on a pas eu bien grand-chose hier.

The Matress... Le Matelas

So we bought a large piece of foam that we used to make our mattress. We cut the foam (using a carving knife) into squares using our box lids as templates and spray-glued them onto our box lids.

Donc, on a achete un gros bout de mousse qu'on a utilise pour faire notre matelas. On a coupe la mousse (avec un couteau electrique) en utilisant les couvercles de nos boites comme gabarit. On a ensuite colle nos bouts de mousse au couvercles

As you can see we linked all our box lids together and put them into the van to make sure they fit snugly... :)

Comme vous voyez, on a mit tous nos couvercle dans le bon ordre pour etre sur que tout rentre bien tout comme il faut... :)

Then what we did with the foam lids is we got our Ikea fabric, that's right - our first Ikea item in the van, would you believe it, many wouldn't, and covered them with our black fabric using small nails to hold in place. Thereafter we screwed a thin sheet of plywood to the box lid to keep everything in place and keep it tidy (Karine's brilliant idea).

On a ensuite pris notre tissue Ikea (et ouai... notre premier truc Ikea dans le camion... :) et on a couvert nos couvercle avec notre beau tissue noir, on a utilise des petits clou a tete plate pour le tenir en place. Puis on a visse un bout de paneau fin pour que tous reste bien en place et que ca fasse propre.

Meanwhile whilst Karine and I were working on our mattress, Raphael and Fany were busy working on a system to hold our spare battery in so it wouldn't move - even though it is like 30kg in weight. They devised an enclosed system whereby the battery sits into a small box that is screwed to the base board of the van preventing movement.

Pendant que Kathy et moi faisiont notre matelas, Raphael et Fany etaient occupes a faire un support pour garder notre "batterie de secour" en place (malgre le faite qu'elle pese 30kg et des briquettes). Donc ils ont fait une petite boite qui est visee au plancher du camion, dans laquelle on a mit la batterie.

Once the battery was is position, Raphael and Fany worked on closing the back box. The battery and inverter need some ventilation so Raphael cut slots out of the board to assist with this and then put carpet on it (because he just loves the whole carpet idea).

Une fois la batterie en place, Raphael et Fany ont ferme le caisson arriere. Comme la batterie et le convertiseur on besoin d'un peu d'air, Raphael a coupe des fentes dans le panneau et il a ensuite attache la moquette (parceque il adore l'idee de la moquette dans le camion... :)

We had to add some additional parts to our main frame as you can see in the picture so it would hold our weight. We added timber on the sides where the walls are and on the inside of our aisle to hold the middle parts of our mattress. We also put a lock on our "secret" door at the front.

On a du renforcer notre charpente un petit peu comme vous voyez dans la photo ci-dessous. On a rajoute du bois cote mur et aussi dans "l'allee" pour supporter le bout de notre matelas qui vient la au millieu. On a aussi mit un petite fermeture a notre porte "secrette".

So after a long day we were able to relax on top of our mattress, ohhh so pretty in Ikea black.

Apres une longue journee de travail, on a put relaxer sur notre matelas... ohhh si jolie en noir Ikea... :)
