East of France, L'Est de la France

Day/Jour 4 - 07/06/10 until - jusqu'a Day/Jour 7 - 09/06/10

Those 3 days were mainly packing and organising days. We got our gas bottle (the cube) which fits just fine in the alley.

Day/Jour 8 - 10/06/10
Ahh, the real trip begins today by a stop in Belfort where we took in the beautiful old city, ate yummy croissants, the walk around the 1800's citadelle and of course the all seeing Lion.

After leaving Belfort we headed into the Voges mountains and followed (for a bit) the beautiful "Route Des Cretes" (thanks to Papi for telling us about it). Beautiful sceneries and cows. Our first (hot) lunch in the middle of nowhere. All in all, a good day.

And to finish the day, being in Alsace and all, we treated ourselves to a nice bottle of wine. From here. And no, we didnt buy it in the supermarket... Wolfberger, Pinot Gris... Very nice... :)
Tres bon... :)

As we got ready for bed, a massive thunder-storm hit the area. I swear, the van shook a few times... but, thankfully, all went well.

Day/Jour 9 - 11/06/10
Today we made our way up the mountains to see some monkeys in the "montagne des singes" (Monkey Mountain). Got to get up close to them and even feed them popcorn. It is a large enclosed forest area where the monkeys are free to roam (the work is too rehabilite them later on in their native Africa)

After the monkeys we went to Haut-Koenigsbourg castle and walked around the outer walls and peeked at the lower court (the only free parts), definately worth a see... :)

Day/Jour 10 - 12/06/10
We headed to Strasbourg this morning, after another night under the rain, we weren't feeling too great about a day out and about, but it turned out to be a gorgeous day. Perfect to roam through the old town with it's beautiful architecture. We also saw the very nice and gothic Cathedral Notre Dame. And lots of shops that sell stuff we wish we bought... mmm cake

  1. Hi Kathy and Karine,
I see you’re travelling to some beautiful places. And I noticed the eating tours are also going well. I wish I were there, as I love my eating.
Loved the Strasbourg photos. The monkey photos are great too but its always hard to tell our cousins apart. Do those cows really speak French?

Love from Mum, Dad and Aliviah.

  2. If you liked Strasbourg, you will love Germany. You'll see :) About food, try the brezels, definitely!

    Gros bisous !

  3. Mum, there's more to life than Germany !! but yes, bretzels are on the menu... :)

Thanks John for the comment. :) and you know what, Kathy asked the exact same question about the cows... she even suggested we record them mooing, maybe there's a difference, as she said French cows could go "Bonjour-moooo" and Aussie cows go "G'day-moooo" :)
