Today we went for a little drive around, basically from the Namur area to the Gent area,
getting lost around Charleroi. The scenery was nice, but due to Irish-like weather, we didnt
stop to take pictures. Well, appart from the pictures below... :)
Day/Jour 17 - 19/06/10
Brussels today, yes we ate waffles... and they were nice. :) Those above are not the ones we
ate, we were too busy not dropping ours on the ground to take pictures...
We saw the Grand Place and a lot of other things, just mainly walked around, getting lost a
few times (yes we like getting lost... we find nice things that way... :)
We then went to the Army Museum (the only free museum in the city...). The walk to the
museum itself was very nice, through the businessy part of Brussels, mainly EU Commission
buildings, nearly the whole of "Rue de la Loi" (the street we took) is lined with EU flags.. :)
The museum in itself is really interesting, massive amounts of weapons, ranging from 1700
something swords to the riffles used in WWI. Not forgetting a lot of planes, boats and
tanks.
We then headed towards the Atomium, the biggest iron (I think) molecule one could see.
That evening cos we're brilliant, we treated ourself to a meal out, gorgeous restaurant in
the little town we were staying. Mussles and chips, yum...
restait. Moules frittes, yum...
Day/Jour 18 - 20/06/10
We went to Gent today. An absolutely gorgeous town that is full of history, from its main
square, to the Castle of the Counts, via the St Bravos Cathedral. Defo a must see. :)

Day/Jour 19 - 21/06/10
We went to Bruges today, a nice old town with lots of nice shops. We wandered down some of
the lanes, most houses/buildings dating from the 17th century. From Bruges we drove into
Holland, got lost a few times trying to cross a bridge that we weren't allowed to cross,
even tryed to lift the barrier myself - without success, still not sure why we couldn't take
the bridge. We landed in a nice spot along a lake in Vogelweg where we are staying for 2
nights, enjoying the company of the ducks and our private jetty.
Hi Kathy and Karine,
ReplyDeleteLooks very nice where you are. I like the duck photo because it looks like they're all lined up waiting for a starters gun to start the race.
Regards
Mun, Dad and Aliviah.
Hi Kathy and Karine again,
ReplyDeleteSome towns in Holland only allow business onwners to go into the central town areas with their cars. So you have to park outside those areas and use public transport or walk. Some areas have metal rods that lift up and down in the roads to keep the cars from going through.
Regards
Dad.
Coucou les filles,
ReplyDeleteBrussels is a beautiful city, didn't see the free entrance museum, though :(
I like the duck photo as well. Like Johnny said, that was exactly what came into my mind first, they are all lined up waiting for something :)
Hi John,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up in regards to driving through towns, we kinda trying to park out of them (bit cheaper you see... :) and then just walking in (which is a bit nicer... see more that way :)
Maman,
When Kathy read that you referred to her dad has Johnny, she burst out laughing... the name is John... :)
And finally in regards to the birds, they jumped in the water when good ol' me came running down the dock... :)
