Today we departed France for Switzerland. Pouring rain, hoping it would stop at some stage we passed through the Jura Mountains and viewed the impressive river and waterfall - plenty of water making it appear really cool - thanks to the rain.
Aujourd'hui, nous sommes partie en direction de la Suisse. Il tombait des cordes, on esperait bien que ca s'arrette, et ben nan... Nous sommes passer par les montagnes du Jura et nous avons vu tout plein de riviere et de chute d'eau... Merci a la plui.
We went to Lausanne and went to an art museum (Collection de L'Art Brut) showing works from people with mental/psychiatric problems - some of it very interesting.
Nous sommes aller a Lausanne et avons visite le Musee de l'Art Brut. Une collection d'oeuvre realiser par des gens avec des problems mentaux/psychiatric, il y avais des trucs assez interessant.
We then went searching for a campsite around Lake Leman which brought us to the French side of the border seeing some impressive scenery - grapes growing on the hills with the lake and alps in the background.
Nous sommes ensuite aller a la recherche d'un camping autour du Lac Leman et nous nous sommes retrouver sur le cote francais et avons vu de beau paysage - les vignes qui pousse sur la montagne et les Alpes dans le fond... :)
Day/Jour 76 - 17/08/10
We went on a trek with the van up a mountain (Rochers-de-Naye) - viewing some impressive scenery of Lake Leman and the mountains (glad our van is so small as we would be down a ditch by now). We could only drive as far as Sonchaux, Caux,Glion and Col de Chaude up the mountain but we saw some impressive views.
Nous sommes aller sur des petites route de montagne (Rochers de Naye etait l'objectif), nous avons eu de tres beau point de vu sur le Lac Leman et sur les montagnes (bien content que le camion soit aussi petit qu'il l'est sinon on serait dans un fosser en ce moment). On a pas pu aller plus haut que Sonchaux, Caux, Glion et le Col de Chaude mais on a vu des paysage tres impressionant.
We then went back down the mountain and viewed the Chateau de Chillon - a beautiful castle on the lake shore and made our way to Neuchatel here we stayed the night.
Nous sommes redecendu sur le lac et sommes aller voir le beau Chateau de Chillon et ensuite nous sommes parti sur Neuchatel ou nous avons passer la nuit.
Day/Jour 77 - 18/08/10
Started the morning early with a tour of Neuchatel. A real medieval city situated on Lake Neuchatel with castles, old churches and buildings. We really enjoyed this town and it's atmosphere.
Partit de bonne heur et de bonne humeur ce matin pour faire le tour de Neuchatel. Une ville medieval, situer sur le Lac Neuchatel, avec son vieux chateau, eglises et batiments. Nous avons beaucoup aimer cette ville.
We then drove to Bern - the capital and walked around the city and the river Aare. We looked around the town at the church, clock tower, castle and parliament buildings.
Nous sommes ensuite aller a Bern, la capital, nous nous sommes ballader dans le centre et avons vu le parlement, l'eglise et le chateau.

We left Bern at 3pm to find a campsite somewhere near Zurich. We travelled over 150km to find not one campsite. Finally getting to Zurich at 7pm we realised on our satnav that it could locate campsites. So it led us to a campsite in Zurich, after dodging the same roadworks 3 times we got on the right road. We got to the campsite at 7:30 to be shown an occupied camping pitch to park in front of for 43Swiss Francs, to which we decided was a complete rip-off, so we left.
We then thought it would be best to do some wild-camping considering the time and all. We drove out of the city up a hill and found a nice forest track to park on until we saw the sign that said private property. We reversed back only to get bogged. Thanks to Karine pulling down a car off the road to come and help us push the car out of the bog we were able to get away. Still back to the problem of nowhere to camp we found another spot on the side of the road, parked, cooked dinner only to be informed by a local that it was illegal to park where we were. Thanks to getting bogged we blew a fair amount of fuel so we were on our last bar of fuel looking for a petrol station in the middle of nowhere. Thanks to the satnav again we found fuel. So we decided to find a hotel for the night only to be told by 2 big hotels that they were fully booked out - thanks to some big sporting event so we drove some more and finally found our accomodation for the night at the Mariott Hotel for a small fortune. Not much else could possibly go wrong right?
Nous sommes parti de Bern dans le but de trouver un camping dans les environs de Zurich. Nous avons rouler pendant plus de 150km sans trouver un seul panneux pour un camping. Enfin arriver a Zurich, nous nous sommes rendu compte qu'on pouvais utiliser notre gps pour trouver un camping, celui-ci nous en a trouver un a Zurich (apres nous avoir emmener dans le meme cul de sac 3 fois). Arriver au camping, on nous montre un emplacement deja occuper, mais assez de place pour caser notre petit camper dessu, pour la moindre somme de 43Franc Suisse. Donc on s'est tirer, je n'aime pas me faire arnaquer.
On s'est ensuite dit, que vu l'heure, on aurait meilleur temp de faire du camping sauvage. Nous somme sortit de la ville et somme aller tout en haut de la coline ou nous avons trouver un beau petit chemin de bois jusqu'a ce qu'on voit un panneau qui disait "propriete privee" donc, marche arrier... Et paf Kathy coince le camion sur le talut, que 2 roues touchaient le sol. Heureusement qu'il y a eu une voiture qui a passe pour nous aider a pousser le camion. sauver ! Mais bon toujours au meme probleme, ou passer la nuit... Nous avions trouver un petit coin sur le bord de la route, tout bien garrer, fait a manger, et juste a ce moment, un petit gars du coin nous dit qu'on a pas le droit de ce garrer la... Nous y voila parti, avec presque plus d'essence, a la recherche d'une station service, au millieu de nulle part.. Mais re-merci a notre Gps, on en a trouver une juste a temps. A ce moment, nous avions decider de trouver un hotel, mais merci a une grande compette d'athletism, les 2 grand hotels a qui on avait demander etait complettement plein... Donc nous avons rouler un peu plus et avions enfin trouver une chambre d'hotel pour la nuit au Mariott pour une petite fortune. On peut pas avoir d'autre ennui... si ?
Day/Jour 78 - 19/08/10
After a rather traumatic evening yesterday we decided to make use of our late checkout of 12 midday and sleep in. After looping around Zurich multiple times yesterday we decided we had enough of the city and headed towards Lake Konstanz - the north of Switzerland. On the way of course we turned up the wrong street which was only meant for trams. Lucky for us there were no trams there and we were able to reverse out into the middle of a big intersection and go up the right road. On the way we saw an impressive aerial display of 6 Swiss jets (red jets with white crosses on the body). We are now just relaxing in a campsite, watched the sun set over the lake and noted the importance of finding a campsite early.
Apres une soiree relativement traumatic hier, nous avons decider de profiter de l'hotel et de partir le plus tard possible, soit midi. vue qu'on ai fait le tour de Zurich plusieur fois la veille, on en avais un peu assez de cette ville, donc on est partit direction le Lac de Konstanz, au nord de la Suisse. En chemin, bien sur, je suis rentrer tete la premiere dans une rue interdite au voiture, que pour le tram, heureusement, j'ai pu faire marche arriere en plein dans un gros croisement et repartir sur la bonne route. Nous avons aussi vu un "show" d'aviation de l'armee Suisse (on savati qu'ils etaient suisse parcequ'ils etaient rouge avec une grosse croix blanche.. :) En ce moment nous relaxons au camping, nous avons vu le soleil se coucher sur le lac et avons noter l'importance de trouver un camping de bonne heure... :)
Day/jour 79 - 20/08/10
After an early start we drove along Lake Konstanz and saw a sand sculpting competition in Rorschach and then ventured south to Liechenstein.
Nous sommes parti de bonne heure et avons fait le tour du Lac de Konstanz et avons trouver une competition de sculpture de sable a Rorschach et ensuite nous sommes parti sud pour le Liechenstein.
It is very small country that appears surrounded by mountains. We went to Vaduz the capital city which is about the size of an average small town like Coffs Harbour, Baume Les Dames or Killarney. We discivered the town centre and drove up hill and saw the private castle overlooking the city. And Just as we entered the country we hit the Swiss border again.
C'est un tout petit pays qui a l'aire d'etre entourer de montagne. Nous sommes allees a la capital, Vaduz qui fait la taille d'une petite ville, comme Baume les Dames, Coffs Harbour ou Killarney. Nous avons fait le tour du centre ville et sommes montees dans la montagne et avons vu le chateau prive qui domine toute la ville. Et aussi que nous soyons arriver dans le pays nous etions sur la frontiere Suisse.
We drove past some really nice mountains and lakes including Lake Walen. We are now relaxing near Lucerne.
En chemin, nous avons vue de tres belle montagne et des lac, y compris le lac Walen. Nous sommes a present dans les environs de Lucerne.
